This poor Les Paul showed up needing some serious love. Someone had “reshaped” the neck, and had gone to far, cutting into the truss-rod cavity.
They had covered it with lumpy bondo in a lame attempt to cover their tracks. We sanded the neck to wood, then shaped a long mahogany patch to cover the opening and to build up the missing mass.
After gluing the patch, the neck was reshaped using a drawknife, rasps and sandpaper.
The pores in the wood were filled with epoxy, sanded, then the neck was shot with black lacquer. You’d never know there was ever a problem.
