Certain basses with short horns and long necks can be prone to serious neck dive. Neck dive is an insidious problem for many bass players – oftentimes they don’t even realize how much their technique is hindered simply by wasting effort holding the neck in place. This Danelectro Shorthorn’s headstock was constantly diving for the floor, and the owner had finally had enough. He brought it to us to see if we could come up with a solution, and we came up with the idea of manufacturing a strap extension. We made this out of solid aluminum, and attached it to the body using the neck screws (this bass normally doesn’t have a heel plate, so this serves as an added bonus by helping keep the neck/body joint tight). Check this out:
Now the bass balances perfectly, and the modification is completely reversible. Cha-ching!
