Here’s something new we doing around the shop: we’re making nuts out of water buffalo horn.
Water buffalo horn is as hard as bone, but it’s jet black with dark grey striations. It polishes up to a mirror shine – we think it looks pretty sweet. We just started using this material around the shop, and this Epiphone Les Paul was the first guitar to get a horn nut. It looks badass, sounds just like bone, and allows the strings to slip through the nut slots without binding or pinging. This would be a great material for replacing graphite, black plastic, and ebony nuts. Very, very cool.
