Fine tools are required to do precise work.
I know the frustration that comes from using inexpensive, inferior quality tools. That is why I have outfitted SF Guitarworks with the finest, most up to date, guitar repair tools available. All fretwork is done using the Incredible Neck-Jig, which was developed by Dan Erlewine, and is available from Stewart-MacDonald. I made my own version of this tool, and incorporated several ideas that make it work better for me. The jig allows extremely precise fingerboard preparation and fret leveling, when used in conjunction with surface-ground sanding beams and accurate straight-edges.
After the fingerboard prep, the fret installation is done using a press and custom cauls that match the fingerboard radius. This method makes it possible to completely seat the fret on the board, keeping dressing to a minimum, and also maximizing the playable life of the fret-job.

SF Guitarworks is equipped to handle any repair need, from making a new nut, to installing a new pickup, to fixing a broken headstock. My goal is to fully repair and/or restore your favorite instrument to your playing standards. Some of the accessory lines carried at SF Guitarworks are Seymour Duncan pickups, Rotosound strings, K-K Sound Acoustic Pickups and a large variety of small parts, including pots, nut blanks, switches and hardware. If I don't have it, I can get it, and will do my absolute best to give you the best price possible.

I began working on my own instruments when I was 13, and after converting my bass to fretless, decided that I had a knack for the trade. I worked part-time in a repair shop through high school and college, and then worked full time until I was 25. After branching into several other mechanical fields, such as bicycle framebuilding, pipeline welding, automotive technician and computer tech, I decided to get back to what I really loved. I attended The Fretworks School of Luthiery in Calgary, Canada to bring myself back up to date on the latest repair technologies. It was wonderful to have my hands back on so many beautiful instruments, and I learned that the repair trade had become much more sophisticated in my short absence. I fabricated all the tooling that I use here at the shop, so I was able to customize and modify designs to suit my needs. I know that because of my skill, tools and dedication, the work that comes out of my shop is as good or better than you will find anywhere. I am so sure of the previous statement that every job is backed by a satisfaction guarantee. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to working for you. Geoff
